My 4.0 Northstar v8 Aurora takes 7.5 quarts. My 1.8 Sentra takes 2.6 quarts. The math just doesn't add up here...

I agree! you should put 3.37 quarts in the Sentra, or 5.78 quarts in the Northstar! that'll show 'em!

My Cobalt SS takes 7 quarts and it has a 2.0 4 cyl.
Toyota 4 cyls in the 4wd Tacoma take 7 quarts
The V6 takes 6 quarts.
It is whatever the company needs to do to fulfill the cooling and lubrication.
The Northstar needs a lot of cooling as it is a V8 in a very stuffed position
The Sentra doesn't need much cooling as it has so much room in the engine bay.

Engine capacity in litres, oil capacity in quarts? Only in America...

Wow, 2.6 qt, that's tiny as fuck! I have heard of big engines taking 7+ qts though.

My 3 with the 2.0L takes 4.5 quarts. Sounds right, but I gotta say, that the Sentra really doesn't take much!

didn't some of the older dry sump Ferraris take around 12-15 qts?

We have a quick lube mechanic (no I will not call him a technician) who insists that engine size is proportionate to oil capacity.
I try to remind him daily that this is not the case but.... he drives a riced out cut spring primer black Monster Tach'd Civic. Automatic.

And don't put 7 qts in that NorthStar - that's not enough and you'll get a MIL light.
And don't put 8 qts in that NorthStar - that'll make it burn off the excess through the cylinders and scare you with all the black smoke out the tailpipe.
